Marc Brettler is Dora Golding Professor of Biblical Studies at Brandeis University. He has written How to Read the Jewish Bible, and co-edited The Jewish Study Bible. An active lecturer and educator, he helped found the Me'ah program in Boston, and has taught in Limmud in England, and has been interviewed by Terri Gross on Fresh Air.

Part of the Kabbalat Shabbat involves reciting most of Psalms 92-99, which focus on the kingship of God. We will together examine the Hebrew text of the Psalms, looking at the following issues: What does this image mean? Do the various psalms agree? Why are they recited then?
Some knowledge of biblical Hebrew is useful, though an English translation will also be supplied.
