Equipping Progressive Citizens of the Jewish World:
A New Education Vision

This session explores a vision for a new supplementary Jewish education model for building progressive American Jewish identity. Engaging families seeking alternative Jewish education for their children and themselves, The Workmen’s Circle, an historic social justice organization is rebooting with an education vision of immersion experiences, service learning, and a rigorous approach to Jewish language and cultural literacy, with the goal of building lifelong learning communities of Jewish activists.

Adrienne is a central force in revolutionizing Yiddish-informed performance in concerts, recordings, mentoring and teaching. Co-founder of the seminal intergenerational model for experiential Jewish music and culture education, Klezkamp, she teaches in such programs throughout Europe and North America. Executive Officer of Programs at The Workmen’s Circle, she resources its new education model for Jewish cultural literacy and progressive activism.

Ann Toback

Ann Toback is the Executive Director of the Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring. For the past two years she has led the Workmen’s Circle through a reboot process, resulting in a new education-based mission. The new WC is developing innovative Jewish learning programs to transmit the WC’s progressive values and activism to today’s Jewish community. A lifelong progressive activist and trained attorney, Ann has been a labor leader of the Writers Guild of America, East, leading the successful 2008 Writers Guild strike in NY before coming to the WC.
