The Rebellious Man of Faith

Shmuley Boteach

Saturday 12:00 PM–1:15 PM Manhattan Theater

Identity & Global Culture, Jewish History, Spiritual Practice

Religion has been perceived as demanding and inculcating obedience. Judaism imparted to the world a vision of social transformation and change, a time when people would cure the world of seemingly intractable ills. Human suffering, Judaism taught, was not the fault of sinful man. The faithful person demanded of God to keep His promises and His injunctions to choose life. The rebellious man of faith will continue to worship God after Auschwitz but he will never excuse God's allowing a holocaust against innocents.

Shmuley Boteach

Shmuley Boteach whom Newsweek calls ‘the most famous Rabbi in America,’ is a Chabad rabbi and American TV and radio host. A popular public speaker and award-winning columnist, he won the London Times Preacher of the Year competition after serving as Rabbi to the students of Oxford for 11 years. The best-selling author of 26 books on Judaism and modern life, he has authored such well-known books as ‘Judaism for Everyone’, ‘Ten Conversations You Need to Have With Your Children’, ‘The Broken American Male,’ ‘Kosher Sex,’ ‘Kosher Adultery,’ and ‘The Kosher Sutra’. In January he publishes his study of the connection between Judaism and Christianity, “Kosher Jesus.” He is married to his Australian wife Debbie and they have nine children.
