Yona Verwer

Dutch-born YONA VERWER’s paintings are currently exhibited at the Mizel Museum, upcoming exhibits at the UJA, Charach Gallery and Holocaust Memorial Center. Featured in solo shows in the Netherlands and New York, her work has also appeared in venues such as the Andy Warhol Factory, the Bronx Museum, the Center for Jewish History, and the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art. She completed residencies at the PS 122 Studio Program, the Makor Center and the Skirball Center in NYC. Yona Verwer is an artist and curator, she is the founder of Jewish Art Salon (JAS), an open, vibrant an innovative community of hundreds of leading visual artists and art professionals. JAS has informal meetings once a month as well as high-quality, original exhibitions, and panel discussions.

Three Jewish cultural organization’s leaders discuss how their work creates community and encourages diversity, understanding, action, outstanding artistic expression, collaboration and new ways to connect to Jewish identity through art. Panelists share their experiences about inspiring, innovative and relevant projects that foster 21st century Jewish culture and creativity. Highlights include Art Kibbutz’s Shofar FlashMob, Jewish Art Salon’s Dura Europos, and a Jewish literacy project at The Sixth Street Community Synagogue, plus Pioneers for Cure.

Arts & Performance

Join the latest craze in the art world and experience a creative twist on your evening with Art Kibbutz NYC. Create your own art, have a drink and get inspired by Hasidic New Wave - led by Greg Wall (Ayn Sof Arkestra, 6th Street Shul) and grammy-winning trumpeter Frank London (Klezmatics). This event will be a social occasion as well as an opportunity for artists and art lovers to create sketches and practice drawing. The musicians will serve as models. Participants are invited to portray the musicians artistic exchange in their sketches, or be inspired by their music. Yona Verwer (Jewish Art Salon) will curate a pop-up exhibition from your best creations. Bring your own drawing board and art supplies – business cards or postcards to trade! All ages are welcome – you don’t have to be an artist to participate if you just wish to enjoy the music and drinks. Curated by Eszter Margit and Yona Verwer.
