Sam Friedman, a public health professional, is a board member of the Mosaic Outdoor Club of Greater New York, doing some of the administrative work keeping the club - the metro- NY affiliate of the international Jewish outdoors/environmental organization - going, and leading events like hiking and paddling. A non-athlete, he works for every gain he gets, took up kayaking at 50+, "bottomed" the Grand Canyon on foot at 55, a lifelong goal, and recently led a get-back-in-shape hike up Bear Mountain.

Walk on the Mild Side

Getting Outdoors Between Sessions

Spiritual Practice

Participants will go on led outdoor walks. Why walk at Limmud? Maimonides taught health promotion as the primary prerequisite for life, and hence, for doing all mitzvot (commandments). Clear enough? All that's needed is weather-appropriate clothing/footwear, and the will to walk. We'll tread on solid or snow-covered ground/pavement. One extra pair of snowshoes and a few pairs of "stable-icers" (easy-on crampons — rubber gaskets with little spikes for better traction that slip onto boots) can be lent if needed.
