Memoirs of a Jewminicana: A One-Woman Show!

Aliza Hausman

Arts & Performance, Identity & Responsibility

I’m Jewish. I’m Latina. They tell me, I have to choose! What’s a self-described Jewminicana to do? I’ll tell you a story that begins in New York City—specifically, Washington Heights, on the Dominican side—and circles back (and around Israel) to the Orthodox Jewish side. There is some running away from nightmarish situations, kidnappings, cool Holocaust survivors, wars in Israel, racism in strange places, ducking kugel recipes, and even some combat boots as favored synagogue attire.
