The Shabbat Morning Service

Debby Miller

Saturday 10:30 AM–11:30 AM Embassy Room 1

Always wondered what exactly was going on in the Shabbat morning service? Debby Miller will guide you through the highlights of an actual service, teach about the history and structure of the service, and answer all those questions you were too afraid to ask. Naomi Less’ Just Breathe Music-shop

A Shabbat Morning Centering Workshop

Naomi Less

Saturday 10:30 AM–11:45 AM Tower VIP Room

Just breathe! Naomi Less takes participants through an exploration of breath and the soul—utilizing music, meditation and liturgy to center oneself. This is an alternative Shabbat morning experience. (This session is great for pre-teen girls, teens, adults, or educators!) **Please note, audio-visual will be used in this session.

Politics, Prophets and Particularism

Jonah and the Concept of “the Other”

Dan Ehrenkrantz

Saturday 10:30 AM–11:45 AM Embassy Room 2

High School, Torah & Text

Get up! Go! Call out! God's urgent commands and Jonah’s attempt to escape them offer lessons about identity, attitudes toward “the other,” and responsibility to the community. At a time when talk of enemies abounds, political ads portray candidates as either prophets or villains, and Barack Obama’s middle name is used to stir up fear, the Book of Jonah shows how profoundly language and behavior can alienate us from each other, and how we can regain a sense of shared humanity.

So I Don’t Believe in God

Jewish Secular Spirituality

Mitchell Silver

Saturday 10:30 AM–11:45 AM Empire Room 2

Identity & Responsibility

What, if any, spirituality is available to Jews who are non-religious. In this session, we will have a discussion regarding the spiritual resources available to Jews who have a completely naturalistic worldview. **Please note, a flip chart may be used during this session.
