Tommy Schwarcz
Friday 10:40 PM–11:55 PM
Congressional Room 1
Global History & Culture
Aramaic, Yiddish, Ladino, and Judeo-Arabic are among the many “Judeo-vernaculars” that have served Jewish communities in the Diaspora over the centuries. Some are still spoken, others almost dead, and many more have long been buried and forgotten. You may not realize it, but even today, wherever Jews live, new “Judeo-vernaculars” are being created. Why? What role have they played in our struggle for survival? And why are new ones developing today? Isn’t Hebrew enough?

How-To
How are you like Moses, Esther, or Golda? You’re going to face obstacles that hinder, and even prevent, your progress in work and life. The key is learning how to recognize and get around them, go over them, or knock them down. In this session, you’ll learn 10 types of roadblocks we face and five essential strategies for handling them. In addition, we’ll analyze Jewish historical examples to see how our patriarchs and matriarchs faced similar roadblocks – and how they tackled them.
**Please note, a video projector will be used in this session.
