Etz Chayyim He

"She" is a Tree of Life to Those that Hold "Her" Fast

Torah & Text

One of the most famous verses from Proverbs is perhaps one of the least understood. What is the ‘she’ that the verse refers to? Explicitly the text is speaking about ‘wisdom,’ but the rabbis have understood this to refer to the Torah (which is why we sing it so often). The other part of the verse is even more befuddling. What is the tree of life? Is it a reference to the Garden of Eden? An actual tree? What kind of tree? Come and hear about Jews, trees and our unfolding tradition.

Hitbodedut

Outdoor Meditation

High School, Ritual & Prayer

Praise G!d You on the earth. The sea monsters and ocean depths Praise G!d. All the mountains and hills, creeping things and winged birds, all the kings and the peoples. Everyone praises G!d. - Psalms 148. Are you a person who feels more alive in nature? Someone interested in hearing the holy symphony down here on earth, or maybe even joining in? What about someone interested in learning more about Jewish spirituality and meditation? If so, come outside today to do Hitbodedut and learn a profound form of outdoor meditation developed by Rebbe Nachmen of Breslov. Open to adults and teens (just remember to bundle up).

Jewish Nature Walk

High School, Movement

Tired of being pent up inside all day and want to get out? Curious about what sort of wildlife lives in the forest outside? Interested in the connections between Judaism and environmentalism? Want some new skills for experiencing the wonder of the natural world in a Jewish context? Take a nature walk, get some exercise, and have some of your questions answered. Open to everyone including High School students and above (just remember to wear warm clothes and boots).
