A junior at the University of Pennsylvania, Danny Cohen is active in Jewish educational initiatives on campus. He particularly enjoys learning, thinking, and teaching on the range of topics that relate to Jewish thought and practice as a framework for considering that which is ethical, ideal, and fulfilling in life. An alumnus of Pardes and Yeshivat Maale Gilboa, he has spent much of the last several years exploring Shabbat as a paradigm for what is best in Judaism and in life.

Ritual & Prayer,
Torah & Text
Whether one is Shabbat observant is a common measure of religious identity. Less common is a consideration of the meaning and purpose embedded in the thought and practice of Shabbat. In an examination of scriptural, liturgical, philosophical, and practical aspects of Shabbat, we will explore what it means to think about Shabbat as a paradigm for an ideal way of being, influencing how we think about ourselves and relate to others, and providing a framework for individual and communal living.
