Symphony on Fire
Music and the Holocaust
Film,
Global History & Culture
"Symphony on Fire" is the story of my parents, and how they navigated through the Holocaust as musicians. After Liberation, they met at the St. Ottilien DP Camp in Bavaria, and helped found a survivor symphony orchestra which performed for the American troops, the Nuremberg tribunal, Golda Meir, Ben-Gurion, and was conducted by Leonard Bernstein. It inspired the film, "Creating Harmony: The Displaced Persons' Orchestra at St. Ottilien," J. Michalczyk, producer. Book discussion, film screened.
