Alan Gersch
Alan Gersch is pursuing a doctorate in Astronomy at the University of Maryland. He holds a BA/BS from Cornell University and masters' degrees from Columbia University and the University of Maryland. He has studied Jewish Studies in various yeshivot and universities and has taught adult education classes in synagogues, batei midrash and living rooms in New York, Jerusalem and Washington, D.C. Gersch now lives with his wife Lili and son Jacob in Washington D.C., where he teaches a daily Talmud class.

Conflicts between creationists and scientists are once again making headlines. In courts across the country Biblical fundamentalists are challenging the teaching of evolution in schools and the age of the Earth.
Although the rabbis of the Talmud lived long before the discovery of modern scientific theories, they have something to say on this issue. Their teachings may surprise as well as help us as we, modern Jews, come to grips with this vexing issue.
