David Russell
Jewish Renaissance
Email: show
David is a trustee of Kehillas Ya'akov, one of the last shuls in London's East End, and a co-founder of the Jewish East End Celebration Society. He recently relocated to New York to help spread word of the area's Jewish Renaissance, as well as the magazine of that name, for which he writes. He now lives in the Lower East Side and is a proud congregant and docent at Eldridge Street. He earns his keep as a director of The Social Enterprise, advising nonprofit organisations.
From London’s East End to the Lower East Side
A Jewish journey across the pond
Global History and Culture
London’s East End is the cradle of British Jewry. As historic as the Lower East Side, the stories it tells and the secrets it holds continue to captivate. From Rodinsky’s Room through the King of the Schnorrers to the Bespoke Overcoat, this session will interactively explore the past, present and future of the Jewish East End through novels, poems, memoirs, and even Oscar winning films! Told by one of an increasing number resisting the lure of Golders Green.
Jewish Renaissance
The revolution will be published
Global History and Culture
Jewish Renaissance Magazine defied the sceptics, launching six years ago to become British Jewry’s most successful new publication this millennium. Today it continues to grow, documenting and intensifying the current renaissance in Jewish culture in the UK and worldwide. The session will chart the magazine’s transatlantic ambitions; it is your opportunity to give input into this groundbreaking venture and to experience some of the stories that have put it on the map - in technicolor!
