Eat This Torah

Using the parshat hashavua (weekly Torah portion) as a recipe book

Aaron Freeman, Sharon Rosenzweig

Text and Thought

Turn the week’s parsha (Torah portion) into a blessing for your palate as well. Turn Torah text into tasty table treats. In this workshop, Sharon and Aaron will teach you to find themes for Shabbat dinner menus based on ideas and foods in the Torah portions. Participants will review the parsha, develop recipes based on its events, and present the menu to their Shabbat dinner “guests.” Your Shabbat meals will become exotic favorites for all your friends!

Late Nite Comedy Debate

Aaron Freeman, Naomi Ackerman, Clive Lawton

Not even Hillel and Shammai had such a heated debate! Not since the infamous Latke/Hamentaschen dispute have tensions risen to this level! Yiddish swear words may be invoked! Fisticuffs may ensue! No idea what we're talking about? Then you'd better come witness it for yourself at this off-the-cuff, improvisational, comedy session from some of Limmud NY 2008's bravest and finest.

The Service of My Dreams

Playing with the music and meaning of Shabbat Beshalach

Aaron Freeman, Marge Eiseman, Jona Muchin, Akiva Wharton

Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream, and so do we! Join us for Shabbat like you’ve never experienced it before. We believe a good Shabbat service should welcome you in as an individual, give you a chance to be part of a group, and help you connect to the Divine and others in a deep way. With creative interplay of music, stories, movement, and environment, we will lead an exploration of Parshat Beshalach, “the dance party” of the moment of liberation! **Please note, this session will have mixed gender seating and musical instruments.

Live: YHWH Loves Moses

Re-imagining the Torah’s Odd Couple

Aaron Freeman, Sharon Rosenzweig

Text and Thought

The weekly online comic, The Comic Torah, re-imagines Moses, the Exodus from Egypt, and Israel’s wilderness wanderings as a romance between the sky god, YHWH, and the human she loves. Art by internationally acclaimed cartoonist, Sharon Rosenzweig, writing by funny man Aaron Freeman, and performances by both make this a thoroughly unique take on Judaism’s bestseller, recast as the greatest love story ever told.

The Stand Up Comedy Torah

Who Knew the Book Was Funny Too?

Aaron, veteran funny man and four-time Emmy nominee, will perform his very outside-the-box version the entire Torah story, from Bereshit to the death of Moses in one laugh-filled hour.

Comedy with Aaron Freeman

Arts and Performance

An NPR commentator and and internationally acclaimed topical comic. Aaron's stand up comedy presentation weaves inter-tribal humor, “between ‘Jewish Standard Time’ and 'Colored people time’ I don't have to show up” with Torah fanhood, “The Jews are the world's most obsessive-compulsive book club. We read five books, over and over and over again” with topical satire, “Barak Obama is the Will Smith of politics, a black guy we can all agree on.” Come, laugh.
