Drawing from personal experiences such as encountering a grizzly in the tundra, mushing sled dogs through the Arctic, and working at Ground Zero as a law enforcement chaplain, Niles Goldstein will explore how it’s possible to find God through experiences of great challenge, hardship, and even pain. Goldstein will interweave mystical teachings from the Hasidic tradition with his own stories of struggle and adventure. This session is for spiritual seekers, restless souls, and anyone with an open mind.

Are you sick and tired of alarmist, reactionary messages about anti-Semitism, assimilation, and intermarriage? Do you want to help create a bold, celebratory, and life-affirming faith community? Taking a “gonzo” approach to Judaism, Niles Goldstein will show how modern Jews can reclaim our rebel, counter-cultural roots, revitalizing our spiritual lives in the process. Gonzo Judaism is about taking risks and thinking freely, but it is also about looking into the past in order to move ahead.

Niles Goldstein once described in Newsweek his experience working as the voice behind “Ask the Rabbi” for Microsoft as a mixed blessing. In this session, free of electronic devices and physical distances, we’ll mix it up in a respectful, open dialogue about any subject you’ve ever wanted to ask a rabbi. Nothing is off the table. Whether you are curious about Jewish beliefs in God or the afterlife, ritual practices, or anything else, this session is for you. Who knows what might come up?

Identity and Responsibility
In the stormy seas of the Catskills lakes, three intrepid Jewish educators and visionaries have been thrown off the Limmud NY ship and are stuck on an abandoned island. All they have are the clothes on their backs and their most precious belongings: a book; a poem or song; and a movie that best defines their Jewish vision of community. Hear from three inspirational leaders what their three personal items are, about their journeys, and how they impacted their ideas of what being Jewish should look like.
