Struggling for recognition and developing identity sometimes increases conflicts in the family. What if young people are torn between their own wishes and those of their families? "Separation" is the story of 12-year-old Noa who discovers that her parents are planning to divorce and takes dramatic action that will alter the fabric of their family life forever. (19 minutes) "New Year's Resolution" is about a 38-year-old single woman who, on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, announces to her orthodox family that she plans to have a child by artificial insemination. Join us for an interactive discussion about how UCLA Hillel students and students in Jewish Studies courses take part in Jewish service learning projects designed to complement academic study, all focus on promoting fundamental Jewish values including tikkun olam, tzedek, and gemilut chasadim.

Every choice we make, from the time we get up in the morning until we go to sleep at night, is a life-giving or life-denying choice, feeding either the Yetzer Tov (good inclination) or Yetzer Hara (evil inclination). Life-giving choices are those that honor our authenticity, tell our truth, connect us to our individual purpose, inspire our passions and help us find compassion and forgiveness.
