Global History & Culture,
Identity & Responsibility
Since the amazing world of Indian Jewry is composed of 4 different communities, each with different origins, we will discuss their origins and customs, folklore, how they interact with each other, and where are they now. Our discussion will include:
-Bene Israel, (maybe the oldest) who are part of the lost tribes and their path to be recognized as full Jews;
-Paradeshi Jews, a mix of Sephardic Jews, Middle East Jews and slaves;
-Black Jews (in fact part of the Paradeshi Jews but older than they and of other origin); and
-Bagdadi Jews, whose origin is in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Yemen, and Turkey.

It might be difficult to know this today with our air conditioned synagogue buildings, but from the Prophets to contemporary sages, Jews have found G!d in nature. Join together as a community of Jews on a beautiful Colorado spring morning as we take a joyful, contemplative Shabbat morning hike. Using a four world service template, with kavanot, some songs and prayers, text study and silence, we will experience Shabbat morning, and the Divine Presence, outdoors. The hike will be easy to moderate. Bring water, sunscreen, hat, good shoes, and a lightweight siddur if you have one.
