Get Connected - Gesher City
A Real Time Intro to this Virtual World
Lisa Feiner
Sunday 7:45 PM–9:00 PM
Making connections here at Limmud that you might want to continue? Interested in meeting other young Jewish adults in the Denver/Boulder area and beyond? Bring your laptops or come and use ours and join us for an informal tour of GesherCity - Colorado's newest online Jewish community with Lisa Feiner, director.
Rather than having the intent to raise money or recruit members, GesherCity’s focus is to build a community for Jewish families, couples and singles; helping users to find real pals and in-person friendships. GesherCity will be especially helpful for those individuals who don’t always feel at ease in synagogues and do not belong to many Jewish organizations but are eager to find like-minded friends who share similar interest.

Text & Thought
This is an opportunity to engage in in-depth exploration of Biblical text regarding a topic central to our understanding of Abraham and the founding of the Jewish religion. Why did Avram descend into Egypt after just arriving in the Promised Land? Did Avram do the right thing in saying his wife, Sari, was his sister and by allowing her to be taken to Pharoah? We will discuss these issues and others as we study various medieval and modern commentaries on the text. Scholars from Hebrew University designed this curriculum for the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School Shivim Panim course on the Torah.

Rising food prices and significant food shortages are currently affecting hundreds of millions globally. Economist Jeffrey Sachs has called it “the worst crisis of its kind in thirty years”. The global food system has made us inextricably connected to farmers, producers, retailers and consumers around the world. This session will examine Jewish texts relating to hunger, food, and livelihoods, as well as responses from grassroots organizations and food researchers to the current crisis, to investigate the role of our own eating and consumption in global food issues.
