Ritual & Prayer, Text & Thought
Abraham Joshua Heschel regarded prayer, both communal and private prayer, as a major concern in the life of the Jew, an issue deserving of personal self-examination, analysis, effort and time. Union with the Holy One was his fundamental concern, and the prayers of the individual were highly valued as a means of making this sacred connection. During this sicha/discussion we will take a brief look at the suggestions Heschel provided for nurturing the sacred connection that is our prayer goal.
A Woman's Chance to "Ley" Tefillin
- Monday 7:30 AM–8:45 AM Windwood
With increased women's participation in egalitarian prayer services comes increasing opportunity for women to choose to take on mitzvot (commandments) denied to them in the past. Women are invited to come a half-hour before the Monday morning davening to learn how to, or try out, "leying" (putting on) tefillin. Of course, a bit of learning about the mitzvah of tefillin will be included with this experience. Bring your tefillin or use those that will be provided.
