Does God Understand English?

Traditonal Jewish prayer is recited in Lashon Kodesh, Hebrew. It is certainly a powerful, ancient language, but does this mean if we don't read or understand Hebrew, we cannot pray? Using some of his own English translations, written to be prayed out loud, as well as other sources, Reb Zalman will lead us through a discussion on praying in the vernacular.

Eve Ilsen, Zalman Schachter-Shalomi

Ritual & Prayer

How to sing a niggun. A niggun is a melody, whose repeated singing is a form of meditation and prayer. Together, Reb Zalman and Eve will take us on a harmonic journey through Hassidic niggunim that will soothe the soul and awaken us to the power of this musical, spiritual practice.

A Credo You Can Believe In

Text & Thought

The nature of faith and belief have changed dramatically in every generation and incarnation of Judaism and Jewish thought. Reb Zalman describes this as 'Paradigm Shift,' where what worked in one generation may need to be rethought for the next. Using Maimonides Thirteen Principles of Faith and comparing them to his own contemporary version, Reb Zalman will take us on a journey through the worlds of Jewish Philosophers, Hassidic thinkers and mystics, bringing us to a paradigm for our own age that has been the inspiration for Jewish Renewal and a changing relationship to spirituality and practice.
